Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS®)

Since its introduction in 1983, the Magnetic Property Measurement System (MPMS) sample magnetometer has become the industry standard for performance and reliability. Utilizing Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) technology, combined with patented enhancements, the MPMS-XL sample magnetometer achieves superior measurement sensitivity, dynamic range, and reproducibility otherwise unattainable.
The MPMS-XL provides solutions for a unique class of sensitive magnetic measurements in key areas such as high-temperature superconductivity, biochemistry, and magnetic recording media. Significant growth in this field, along with increased use of the MPMS-XL, began in 1988 with the discovery of a new class of superconducting materials. While the basic application of the instrument has not changed greatly, use has expanded to more than 530 installations worldwide. The MPMS product line provides the exceptional sensitivity of a SQUID-based magnetometer in a full featured, user friendly analytical instrument.
The modular MPMS design integrates a SQUID detection system, a precision temperature control unit residing in the bore of a high-field superconducting magnet, and a sophisticated computer operating system. Proprietary software, running within an intuitive MS Windows environment, allows full automation of all system parameters while controlling measurements, making data collection and analysis quick and easy.
Maximum Sample Size: 9 mm
Field Uniformity: 0.01% over 4 cm
Temperature Range: 1.9 – 400 K (800 K with optional oven)
MPMS EverCool®

The Quantum Design MPMS EverCool Dewar was designed to eliminate the need for liquid helium transfers and to virtually eliminate all helium loss from the Quantum Design MPMS magnetometer system. The MPMS EverCool system features an integrated cryocooler-dewar system that recondenses the helium directly within the EverCool dewar. Because the cold helium gas is recondensed at low temperature before it leaves the dewar, the EverCool system is much more efficient in power consumption and cooling requirements than helium liquefying systems that recover the helium gas at room temperature.
MPMS-XL
The MPMS-XL Models offer high homogeneity magnet configurations: ± 1.0 Tesla, ± 5.0 Tesla and ± 7.0 Tesla. Each system includes:
- Reciprocating Sample Measurement System for improved sensitivity and measurement speed
- Continuous Low Temperature Control/Temperature Sweep with Enhanced Thermometry - Patented dual impedance design for continuous operation below 4.2 K, smooth transition through 4.2 K, and improved thermometry for Temperature Sweep Mode
- MPMS MultiVu Windows-based Software Interface
